Our CEO tenders her resignation

A message from the Board of Directors

South Tamworth Bowling Club would like to advise that our Chief Executive Officer, Sarah Young has tendered her resignation. We thank Sarah for her contribution to our Club over the past 6 months and would like to highlight some of our Club’s achievements during this time:

  • Whilst the Club has not fully bounced back from the impact of COVID-19, the Club’s profits are heading in a positive direction each month and we have reduced our debt below $100,000.

  • Our Club has made the following donations to the community:

    • $3,027 – Westpac Rescue Helicopter

    • $4,000 – South United Hockey Club

    • $4,000 – South Bowlo Netball Club

    • $630 – Des Cross – NSW Disability Lawn Bowls State Championships

The Club has also continued their donation of facilities for Bowls meetings, NASHOS, Kevin Clifton’s bowls group and Ken Trow’s bowls group, to name a few.

  • Our Club has been selected as a finalist in the Mental & Social Wellbeing category of the Clubs & Community Awards, where South Bowlo is being recognised as one of the top community Clubs in NSW.

  • A number of promotions have been run for the benefit of members including Entertainer Dream, Win a Trip to Mudgee and our Egg-cellent Easter Raffle including a $350 gift card draw.

  • The industry-first courtesy taxi service has been trialed and implemented with huge success. The service runs 7 days per week, offers wheelchair access, allows members to travel any distance (not just within 5km) and offers members a direct trip home. The service is currently working to reduce liability and reduce costs by $30,000 per year, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from members.

  • Members can now purchase Friday night raffle tickets with bonus points and EFTPOS, the number of raffle prizes has been increased and a Friday night member jackpot draw added. This has been received positively by members.

  • Southside Kitchen has reopened 7 days for lunch & dinner and patronage continues to increase in response to the great value food offerings.

  • Three of our staff have commenced Certificate IV qualifications related to their positions, ensuring that member experience continues to improve and that we keep ahead of industry trends.

  • Our bar snack menu has increased, adding new flavours of chips, nuts, chocolates and cookies, to name a few.

  • We have also successfully hosted the Bowls NSW 2021 State Championships and the Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT Disability Singles Classic with overwhelming positive feedback. We thank Club Management, Staff and Volunteers for their hard work to ensure these events were successful.

We wish Sarah all the best.

A message from the CEO

It has been a privilege to lead a Club where the members and staff are so proud their Club and their community.

I thank the Board of Directors, Members and Staff who have welcomed me to the Club and the town. A special thank you to all those who volunteered their time for the benefit of the Club. I am proud to say, there are too many of you to name.

I enjoy living in Tamworth – the town is big enough to have everything I need, but small enough to offer country hospitality and mateship. I have made lifelong friends and I have to mention how much I enjoy the extremely short commute to work (especially when compared to Sydney).

It has been an incredible ride over the last few months and I would like to thank the Club and members for everything I have learned. Thank you to the members who laughed and smiled with me as I learned new skills, like how to pour a beer. And a special thank you to all the staff who taught me new skills - you know who you are.

South Bowlo is a great community Club that is in an excellent financial position. I wish you well for the future.

Over the next few weeks I will be assisting with the transition. Be sure to say 'hi' if you are in the Club. If you would like to keep in touch, please add me on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/youngsarahyoung/

Until our paths cross again,

Sarah Young
